Today afternoon, something disturbing happened. While crossing
the road in usual careless way along with a friend, I walked onto something which
I wouldn't have ever noticed on any normal day. My walking on to that thing
made her literally gasp and all. Well gaining my focus, all I remember is seeing
a black cloth made figure with white paint so as to make a face on it with
lemon and chilies.
What was disturbing was not the action but the source of reaction.
According to her it was the most dangerous thing I could have brought upon myself. I
was intrigued. It was my “Wow” gasp moment.
I thought it was her belief and tried not to show my obvious
amusement. I talked casually about it to some of my other friends expecting a
share of my amusement. Well Man, Was I shocked! It was only me who seemed to be ignorant about such grim dangerous
things lying around just everywhere. Before today, all I thought one needed to worry about was nails on the road for their vehicle tires but it seems even a dirty cloth
on road can make most unfortunate of things happen in your life.
The disturbing part was, it was coming from all educated
people well off with their life. I was like, what really? Legend says that: If
you put “nimbu mirch” on your shop, or house or office bad spirits will stay
away. My stepping onto that thing could make spirits angry or interested. (some
shit that is dangerous, Yeah whatever). So I had a very pensive day trying to
find- WTH?
Without Google my reasons for ” Nimbu Mirch”:
1. Its same as the use of Garland, as in not necessary but
it makes us believe that we are making God happy and evading dangers.
2. Nice innovative product high customer reach, guess what
poor can afford too.
3. Mom told their kids not to step on dirty cloth for hygiene
reasons by telling something scary would happen if they did, but it became a
myth altogether. Something like “ Soo jao warna sher aa jayega” :’D

Well , take away from today’s day for me was, next time somebody asks me about “Nazar battu”, I’ll be an encyclopaedia, but yes I am still going to remember what’s important, Nimbu price is sky rocketing, Rs 5 for one single piece this summer.(that’s only what you are worth nimbu). Being born on 13th of the month makes you immune to such ridiculous myths innately.
